Hasta la vista.

I was back working at Nagra for the past few weeks. I don’t know how to feel about this development, because I had discussed quiting with my manager in March. I felt like I would be more of a problem (unreliable and very distracted). But here I am regardless, being praised for past work(resting on past laurels) and receiving unadulterated compliments meant to convince my ego into working full-time in the comfort of known terrain.

I am quite sure now that pursuing a PhD will not make me happier or better equipped. With my personality and the objectives of most PhD programs, I would find myself side-tracked from my true desires. I want to be able to change speeds and ideas quickly, although I recognize the need for steadfast study. I think with technology, the university is becoming less of the innovative force than it used to be. For sure universities will be the power houses, but not the sites of revolution and innovation they used to be.

Now the question is, can I find something better than what I am doing now? Can I find a middle ground of comfort and flexibility? I would rather work from home being able to control the time I work by my level of productivity. I would love to find a niche to start a small company.

Well maybe my trip to Philippines will be the extreme break from the norm to give me some perspective.
